English for Legal Professionals

The English for Law course will provide students with the opportunity to improve their general English skills in the morning and to focus on specific elements of Legal English in the afternoons.  This course is specifically designed around the needs and requirements of the individual or group of students. Topics may include: Law and its definitions in English, understanding contracts, how to discuss and negotiate a contract in English and communications in law.

A more Intensive English for Law course or TOLES preparation is available on request.

Morning classes:

During the mornings you will be allocated a class according to your level of English. We will always send you the entrance test prior to your arrival unless otherwise instructed. Our teachers will use a course book that follows a sequential approach to grammar and vocabulary learning. They will also use a number of other resources and materials either in text form or from a selection of media including online resources, radio and television. You will be given the opportunity to:

  • improve your knowledge of grammar.
  • learn new vocabulary through speaking, listening and reading.
  • be exposed to and take part in conversation to improve your fluency.
  • focus on your writing skills, looking at different types of written text and register.
  • practice your pronunciation including individual sounds, stress and intonation.
  • consolidate what you have learned through regular review activities.

Approximately 1 hour of homework will be given to you every day.

Afternoon classes:

During the afternoon you will focus on English for Law. The themes, activities and focus will be designed specifically around the needs and requirements of individuals or groups. We will discuss your needs before you arrive in the UK and design a course timetable. The course will be relevant to will provide you with some of the skills and practice that you need on your return to work or study.
